All of the proceeds from the holiday mini sessions this year are going to an amazing boy, Strother, and his family. Strother’s mom and I have a few mutual friends. We are actually in a baby-sitting club together (Yes, I am in a babysitting club!) but we haven’t had the chance to watch each other’s kiddos yet… soon! When I heard about the accident I knew I had to do something to help – I can’t take back the accident for them, I can’t take away the pain, but I can take photos!!!!
Here’s a bit of Strother’s story from his site:
“On June 23, 2012, a healthy, happy and very bright little five-year old boy named Strother Norman was involved in a tragic car accident. He was rescued by the ‘jaws of life’ and flown to Cook Children’s Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas, where he spent 44 days in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. Strother suffered a spinal cord injury at his T3 and L3 vertebrae, and has no spinal cord function below the T2 vertebrae. He has endured four major surgeries with the likelihood of more in the future as he grows. Remarkably, he has full use of his arms and has retained great dexterity in his hands. Unfortunately, he has no feeling below his chest.”
If you’re still on the fence about booking a session to help out, I encourage you to read this single blog post, written by Strother’s dad. It’s one of the most emotional things I’ve ever read in my entire life….. and it’s a conversation between 5 year old Strother and his 3 year old brother, Hodge. Kids never cease to amaze me. Make sure you have a tissue handy. Seriously.
